This Spring, Wagner debuted their 2015 Cabernet Franc Rosé to much fanfare in the Finger Lakes. Wagner had been somewhat reluctant to produce a Rosé, despite the surge in popularity of that category in recent years. They haven’t made a Rosé since the late 1980s, and sales for that vintage were disappointing. The public just wasn’t ready for Dry Rosé a quarter of a century ago. Burned by that experience, it’s no wonder Wagner played it cautious.
Had the recent Rosé boom been a mere fad, consumers would have abandoned Rosé for the next big thing, leaving unsold cases clogging up shelves and warehouses. However, the reality is Rosé is hard to keep on the shelves. Stephanie Rudat, General Manager and Wine Buyer of Ryan’s says Finger Lakes “Rosés are pretty much a guaranteed sell-out every year for the wineries.” With ever growing sales and many new customers still discovering Rosés for the first time, it seem like this love affair with Rosé is more of a long term trend than a flash in the pan.
Sometimes, good things come to those who wait, and Wagner’s long awaited Rosé is certainly no exception to that idiom. This 100% Cabernet Franc Dry Rosé is the product of night harvesting, and as such features bright and zesty flavors, and a crisp finish. Since its debut, Wagner’s Cabernet Franc Dry Rosé 2015 has already garnered several awards and distinctions:
- It received 92 Points at the Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition;
- Beverage Tasting Institute rates it as a Best Buy;
- And it has earned a Silver Medal at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.
